The ‘promiscuity’ double standard
It has always bothered me that guys can brag about ‘banging 80 chicks’ but if a girl has more partners than she can count on one hand she is a whore, slut, tramp, etc.
A friend of mine is an extremely good looking, tall and toned 24 year old. He recently fell infatuated with this girl he met while in Vegas. The girl is 20. They have spent quite some time together but don’t see eachother that often because of the distance. I guess they had ‘the talk’ and she asked him his count, he asked hers. The tally (and this is actually an understimate on his behalf) Boy: “37” Girl: 2. My friend’s count is more like 50+ but that’s another story. That didn’t stop her from continuing to see him, she didn’t say much about it. Now, had it been the other way around I’m sure he would have come back to us telling us what a “whore” she is for having that many partners.
I brought this up with my (older) sister last night and my ex-boyfriend. He brought up a very good point. Biologically women are more succeptible to STDs, and can become pregnant hence making it obvious if and when they have slept around and making them targets.
I don’t think that this will ever change, but if the ratio in my relationship were “37”:2 I would proabably rethink this match up.
